Victorian Government Is Just Full of… Gas

The state of Victoria, Australia, has banned natural gas connections to new residential dwellings in which the planning permit was lodged on or after 1 January 2024. Even existing gas hot water systems are to be phased out from 1 March 2027 although repairs are still allowed. How nice.
This is not news. It is, of course, part of the plan to phase out natural gas because of the usual communist libtard horse manure: climate change, emissions reduction, going electric etc.

The gas assets, such as the pipes in the ground, are still there and transporting gas, and in many cases near these new dwellings. So, deliberately going electric is not necessarily that sensible, technically and economically.
And by the way, the existing gas assets still require maintenance which costs millions per year. So, despite whatever change in regulation and taxation incentives, no doubt that cost will just be somehow passed onto other taxes and/or even the electric bills.
But all is well. It’s working so well that the Victorian government has approved new projects for offshore gas extraction.
So, let’s ban people from using gas but drill some because they maybe kinda need it after all.
