Melbourne, Australia – A patient at a public hospital identifies as “they” in the hopes of getting an extra serving of dinner.

“The portions are actually pretty good,” said Phat Phuc, “but I just wanted more.”
According to Michelle Park, a nurse at the hospital, patients are allowed to ask for extra food.
“We don’t mind as long as it is not against doctors’ orders and that they don’t abuse it,” she said, “so I don’t really care what patients identify as.”
Phuc, however, insists on identifying as “they”.
“It’s a matter of principle. If I, I mean we are just one person, we’re not supposed to have more than one serving and it’s not right for us to ask,” they said. “But if we’re more than one, then we don’t even need to ask.”
Phuc is also of the opinion that the pumpkin soup is particularly good.
