Trump Orders Regulatory Reform and RDT&E for Civilian Supersonic Flight

To those who miss the Concorde or the idea of civilian supersonic flight in general, there is good news.

There’s no need to go into details here as anyone who cares knows that civilian supersonic flight is not available due to artificial, goodie-two-shoes economic and regulatory restrictions. This is not to state that there are no technical and other practical challenges but these can be overcome.
President Trump issued the order on 6 June 2025 that “begins a historic national effort to reestablish the United States as the undisputed leader in high-speed aviation”. (Well, not sure if the US was ever a leader in the civilian sector even if it was/is in the military sector but anyway…)
It is highly generalized but, as stated, it is a mere beginning, first ordering internal regulatory reform regarding noise limits and then also externally by working with foreign partners “to seek global alignment regarding supersonic regulatory approaches”.
Of course, there is also an order for the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) to get started on research development test and evaluation (RDT&E).
Despite whatever else is going on (and those things are important and do demand attention) and that it may take some years to get anywhere impressive, it is good to see that POTUS has not forgotten about civilian supersonic flight and this is as good a start as any.
