Sydney, Australia – A pastor at a local church preached that the lessons found in the fourteenth chapter of the Gospel of Luke do not apply in some circumstances.
“One, of course, should not seek a high place at a wedding banquet or church,” said Pastor Lee of Twue Ruv and Gwace Chinese Baptist Church.
“However, this does not apply to our Chinese School. It’s perfectly acceptable to play politics and have our members fight for the high positions at our school.”
When members expressed concern that such a mentality might drive people away from the church, he answered that congregation-run Chinese schools are consistent with the spirit of the Gospels.
“It was not ideal but Jesus obviously allowed the money changers to do their thing in the temple for quite some time before driving them out,” said Lee, “so we’re allowed to make some money from the school and then let people drive each other out.”
