ICJ Finds Russian Counter-claims of Genocide Admissible

To the Zelensky administration and their fans who accuse Russia of committing genocide, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) is not biting.

In Ukraine vs Russian Federation “Allegations of Genocide under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide”, Russia has denied the accusations and made counter-claims.

Regardless of whatever Russia has done or not done, anyone who has been half-following the party knows the stunts Ukraine has pulled since 2014 with a little help from their friends in Europe and the CIA.

Anyway, Ukraine is obviously not happy about Russia’s counter-claims and wants it thrown out. Thankfully, the ICJ seems to be fair-minded. The court (11–4)

[f]inds that the counter-claims submitted by the Russian Federation are admissible as such and form part of the current proceedings…

The reasoning is commonsensical: ICJ has jurisdiction and the claims of both sides with their corresponding evidence are directly related.

…the Court considers that the Parties’ respective claims relate to the same factual complex and that there is a direct connection in fact between Ukraine’s principal claim and the Russian Federation’s counter-claims. Moreover, the Court notes that the Russian Federation intends to rely, for the most part, on the same evidence in order both to refute Ukraine’s claim and to substantiate its own counter-claims. With respect to the question of connection in law, the Court notes that both Parties rely, in their respective claims, on the same instrument, the Genocide Convention, which is invoked both as the title of jurisdiction and as the basis of the Parties’ claims on the merits. The Court concludes that there is a direct legal connection between Ukraine’s principal claim and the Russian Federation’s counter-claims.

Zelensky better have more coke while he still can.
