Berlin, Germany – Climate experts recommend a new practice to help limit the rise in temperature to under the agreed 1.5 degrees Celcius.
“We recommend leaving the fridge door open at all times,” said Professor Dummkopf. “We did consider to have everyone get rid of their fridges since they’re just unsustainable, but then that would also be a waste.”
According to the latest simulation models using AI, the fridge can still cool food a little while also cooling the exterior if one keeps the fridge door open.
Dummkopf’s team then expanded the model to a global scale.

“Our models show that if everybody did that, the atmosphere will hopefully get cooled by the end of the century but only if there is one fridge per household,” he said.
The paper documenting all the findings is due to be published next month. In the paper is also a recommendation to the EU that all fridges in the future should have no doors.
“If it’s meant to be open, then might as well not have them,” said Dummkopf. “Not only is it a waste of material but also a waste of space. Imagine a shop or showroom where all the fridges have the doors open!”
