Imperial Lockdowns Taking a Toll

Mos Eisley, Tatooine (GNS) – The Empire has been enforcing lockdowns across the galaxy in recent months. Although only for short periods in some instances, the military-enforced hard lockdowns and curfews are nonetheless taking their toll.

Last week, stormtroopers patrolled the streets of Mos Eisley on Tatooine. “The Empire doesn’t even care about us. But they just turned up one day and expected everyone to do as told,” said one resident. “They even checked every droid. Said the new strain can infect droids. They expect us to believe that?!”

Residents have expressed their concern that even relatively short lockdowns hamper the already sewage-low levels of economic activity at the Outer Rim spaceport.

“They wanted outdoor dining only,” said Wuher, a bartender at the Mos Eisley Cantina, “but my boss told them that the streets are too unhygienic and it’s more crowded than in here. Sergeant Buckethead had nothing to say. Still, stress levels are high. Sure, there’s the occasional brawl anyway but just the other day, some old guy whipped out a lightsaber and sliced a guy’s hand right off—heard he committed suicide later. And then some cowboy shot some Rodian. Made a total mess.”

In another incident, multiple witnesses saw an old freighter leave the spaceport despite the lockdown. “Must have been in a rush,” said a mechanic.

Nearby, a middle-aged couple who were established moisture farmers died in a fire. One official suspects murder-suicide, that the man shot himself, then his wife and then set the place on fire. Another official suspects the now-missing nephew. But a neighbor is not convinced. “I doubt it’s suicide. Farmers are working hard and looking forward to the upcoming harvest. It’s less bad for them during these times.”

A stormtrooper, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said, “It was the sand people. They must have been desperate like most.”

Those who knew the couple are not convinced about that either. “Everyone blames the sand people. Oh, a speeder smacked into a building. Sand people did it. It’s just the trendy thing to do.”

No matter what had happened, it doesn’t look like the stress levels on Mos Eisley will drop anytime soon.
