London, UK – The UK online age verification is causing mayhem and rage that make soccer riots seem like a palliative care unit situated in the countryside.
Kathryn, who swears she is 29 years old, has been banned from various platforms after their facial recognition declared her to be under 18.
“Getting asked at the bottle shop is one thing, I can still show my ID,” she said, “but online platforms just do it automatically and I can’t contact anyone!”

Other women, too, feel the frustration.
“I’m frustrated that I’m not sure whether I should be frustrated more,” said Liz, a 31-year-old office worker, “I mean, I haven’t been mistaken for under 18 since I was 15, so I don’t know whether to be flattered or not.”
“It’s only flattering when men do it, not some faceless AI,” said Kathryn.
AI experts have offered varied opinions, but most have stated that “cake face” is not the cause for AI underestimating women’s age.
“Makeup isn’t fooling anyone either way,” said Professor Glazeham of the University of Bedfordshire, who takes an entirely different view: “My research indicates that AI just thinks British women are bitter and ugly and maybe too drunk, which, to be fair, is probably the whole country for the past four hundred years.”
