It has been reported that the Estonian Navy tried to inspect a so-called shadow fleet tanker headed to Russia on Tuesday.
In response, a Russian SU-35 apparently presented itself as a deterrent, entering Estonian airspace for less than a minute.
As Estonia has no fighter jets, NATO conducts air patrols. A Portuguese F-16 was scrambled. (The number is not clear.)
In light of history, a dislike and distrust of Russia is understandable but setting aside that the legalities, exact location and other related details regarding this incident are conveniently unclear, it’s rather amusing that a country that doesn’t even have fighter jets wants to pick a fight.
Estonia isn’t the only one. Finland is hosting Sweden and the UK for two military exercises, Northern Strike 125 and Northern Star 25. Again, this is understandable up to a point for Finland and Sweden. But for the UK to involve itself at Russia’s front door… yeah, sure, keep pretending to be a major power, let’s see how that works out.
