Study: Mobile Phones Increase White Blood Cell Count

A study by Laldinpuii et al titled “Effects of exposure to nearby mobile phone base stations and mobile phone usage on human blood parameters” published on 6 February 2026 demonstrates that mobile RF-EMF (900 and 1800 MHz) elevates white blood cell counts.

Radiation having an impact on living cells is commonsense but it is interesting to come across a study that supports this.

The study is admittedly small, comparing 50 people who live <60m to a mobile phone tower to 51 people in the control group who live >300m away from a mobile phone tower. Such “exposures contributed to absolute monocytes similar to smoking”.

The study also examined individual mobile phone use and found that

…almost a quarter of those with high MPBS exposures had basophil counts above the clinical reference limits, while over half of those with heavy daily mobile phone use (4 to 6 hours) had lymphocyte counts above the limits, and most were under 30 years old.
