Even lamestream media covered this so there was no point repeating it at the time but it may be worth recapping now.
26 August 2021: Japan suspends approximately 1.63 million doses of Moderna after the discovery of foreign matter in some vials. These belong to 3 lots (3004667, 3004734 and 3004956). Although unclear what said foreign matter actually is, it is a substance that “reacts to magnets”.
August 28: Two men (30s) die “within days” of their second Moderna shot. Both received shots from the suspended lots and the cause of death is yet to be determined. Meanwhile, in Okinawa, another vial with foreign matter is found.
August 29: In Gunma, a vial belonging to another lot (3005293) with foreign matter is found. Ibaraki, Saitama, Tokyo, Gifu, Aichi and, as mentioned already, Okinawa are the other prefectures that also discovered foreign matter in some vials.
August 30: Foreign matter found in Okinawa “likely” to be rubber stopper fragments.
September 1: In Kanagawa, same drill, different lot. Rubber stopper fragments suspected.
September 2: The particles in the three lots are reportedly stainless steel and these three lots are recalled/withdrawn.
It is unclear how many shots in addition to those initial 3 lots are suspended given the discovery of foreign matter in vials. Some report approximately one million, making a total of over 2.6 million.
At the time of writing, the cause of death of the two men is yet to be determined or at least not announced if they already known.
Who knows what to believe anymore? One has to wonder whether the foreign matter, at minimum, is unintended contaminants due to production issues as they are rushing things to churn these out.
On a related note, a case of Mu variant was reported on September 1. Lambda was first reported in July. This is not surprising, especially with foreigners entering the country for the Olympics, but I cannot help being curious on two fronts.
The first is regarding the cause given that it has been at least a few months since the vaccine rollout began in many countries. It is known that vaccines that don’t work properly can facilitate the spreading of disease. Is this what is going on now with Delta and the rest?
The second, regardless of the cause, is the direction of the lamestream narrative: whether this will be used to push vaccines, especially in a country like Japan where non-scheduled vaccinations are not exactly popular.

September 7: Japan Today reports that a man (49) who had received his second dose of Moderna from the now-withdrawn lots on August 11 died shortly afterwards. “[H]is death was confirmed on the morning of the following day.”
