Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick

Updated: Jan 20

The source material for the modern classic Blade Runner, this novel focuses on Deckard more so than the film.

The plot still follows Deckard’s hunt for the Nexus-6 replicants but it also deals with Deckard’s dissatisfaction with his life. He has an unhappy wife and he merely owns a synthetic ewe when his neighbor has a real mare in a world where real animals are rare. His interactions with Rachael are more complex and interesting, especially given her origins and purpose. Perhaps the most intriguing and trippy episode is when Deckard is arrested, accused of being an android and taken to a police station he never knew even existed.

This is a recommended read and worthy of study for anyone who is a fan of the film.
